Propaganda in Advertising/PR

  • Beautiful people
The type of propaganda that deals with famous people or depicts attractive, happy people. This makes other people think that if they buy a product or follow a certain ideology, they too will be happy or successful. (This is more used in advertising for products, instead of political reasons)
A half-truth is a deceptive statement which may come in several forms and includes some element of truth. The statement might be partly true, the statement may be totally true but only part of the whole truth, or it may utilize some deceptive element, such as improper punctuation, or double meaning, especially if the intent is to deceive, evade blame or misrepresent the truth.

Beautiful People- This need not be explained. David and Victoria Beckham are without a doubt some of the most beautiful people on the face of this planet. Them advertising underwear is a perfect combination. I myself have single handedly bought a pair of Emporio Armani underwear just because of this advertisement. With them being in the advertisement it gives the some-what false illusion that if you wear the underwear you can be attractive and sexy like the Beckhams.

Half-Truth- Although there is no word statement in this advertisement, it definitely exudes a half truth. The half truth being that maybe if you wore the underwear you would look like that. Or if you were to wear the underwear you could have a girl like Victoria Beckham. Reality is you COULD look/have someone like them but only REALISTICALLY if you were in shape like them.

Internet

I use the internet everyday. For purchasing things online, reading articles, Facebook of course along with various other things. I personally myself can recognize that I have an addiction to Facebook. I know I am addicted because every time I try doing homework that involves my laptop I end up on Facebook for hours on end just seeing what's new with other people. It has greatly affected my homework and study life because it drains much of my time and engulfs me in that world versus the world of my studies which clearly is more important. One way I found that helped fix the whole situation is to not connect to my Wi-Fi at home and just work from home like that. Other than that I found that not being so into it at all and being less stuck on FB has really been the only way in which to help me not get so addicted to FB.
Another thing I find that I was very addicted to was online shopping due to the emails sent to me every morning that I would check with flashing ads saying "30-50% OFF!" It immediately catches my eye and I feel that I MUST BUY SOMETHING. I must admit that it is a very bad habit which I'm working on. The solution to this problem was to remove myself from their online mailing list.

Movies or Recordings

One of my favorite movies of 2010-2011 is probably Avatar, as cliche as that may sound. I liked it because of the cinematography as well as the cast that was in the movie. But most of all I enjoyed the underlying meaning of the movie. The underlying meaning to the movie was that the human race in general is very destructive and we feel that we have the natural born right to take as we please due to our position and intelligence in the natural world.

One of my favorite movies of all time is Pulp Fiction. Pulp Fiction, I feel has a very raw and uncensored take upon our world and how stereotypes are made. The cast in the movie is beyond phenomenal and the acting is very raw and untouched. The movie is a bit longer than regular ones but the story line along with the dynamic are very special. I really enjoy watching this movie, its one of those where I can just throw it on and relax.

Magazines

My Magazine Proposal.

Flair Magazine
This magazine is geared toward the male audience. Sort of like GQ but the flair is that the magazine is built, designed and created by an array of gay men. The magazine would explore different trendy lifestyles of men in the 20th century. From mainstream trends and fashion to more underground styles.
Demographic: The demographic would be the men who are interested trends and style and want to be kept up to date. The age demographic would be men in the age range of 24-35. Men out of college and starting their careers and looking for the guidance to fresh clean style. Flair magazine would be different from it's competitors because the format and layout of the magazine would be different. Half of the magazine would consist of fashion, style and articles, there would be a lot of sexual articles, surveys, and facts along with testimonials. The magazine would also explore real life issues that are happening around the world and US issues.
The five advertisers who would be interested in advertising in Flair would most likely be clothing brands or fashion houses such as Giorgio Armani, True Religion, Diesel, Hugo Boss & Givenchy. Other advertisers who would want to be in Flair would be Axe, Old Spice & Gillette.
Articles in Flair would vary from things such as "The best sex you'll ever have" to "how to get that 6-pack in less than a week". Another article featured would be "what to do with your old clothes"

The cover of the premier issue would be phenomenal. It would be a photoshoot consisting of the most modern, up to date, trendy men of our time. Faces including David Beckham, Monta Ellis, TI, Diddy, Channing Tatum, & Christiano Ronaldo.

Books

The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir- Along with really enjoying this book I learned a lot about myself and my heritage. Although I'm not of Hmong descent their story is like my families and like millions of others. I am of Chinese/Vietnamese culture and heritage but the struggles and stories portrayed in this book happened to my family as well, for the most part. This book tracks the adventures of a family all over Asia as well as in America and their time assimilating to this new land. At times the book made me very emotional and surprisingly made me cry. The book is written beautifully from the point of view of a young girl.

One Day- One day was a book about a friendship of two people who eventually fell in love with each other. Each chapter is documented and represented as one year. I really enjoyed this book because it gave me perspective of what love is about & life. It really made me think, thats what I really like about books and movies. If a book makes me question and think about the realities of something then I would declare it a good book. It made me question many things inluding love, success and friendship. The book also made me feel my heart crack a little. The book is so good that it brings up mixed emotions. While reading it, it hurts my heart because of all the suffering but at the same time its so good that it makes me want to keep reading it.

Memoirs Of A Geisha: I enjoyed this book a lot. This book didn't make me think too much or make me question anything but it was a very fun and easy read. I read this book and enjoyed it very much because at that point I was very interested in geishas. It immersed me in the life and style of geisha in a story like account versus just shooting facts at me. For the most part I do feel that it demonstrated the life and struggles of geisha quite accurately. I also read this book before the movie came out so I could fully understand the movie and I'm glad that I did.
